Untitled [Stage Costumes 1956]

Part of a series of set and costume designs produced in

early 1956 during Cross' time at the Slade. Possibly 'Franciscan Friar and Mephisophilis' for 'Dr Faustus' by

Christopher Marlowe.

In July 1955 Cross received a diploma in Fine Art (Painting and Stage Design) from the Slade, and was Awarded the Robert Stanbury Post-Graduate Scholarship in Stage Design.

 'Under the painter and designer Robert Medley...I was able to meet and to work with leading theatrical producers' (Helford, A River and some Landscapes', Halsgrove 2005, p128).

Exhibited at the Slade in May 1962.
