Against the Light 1983

Completed during Cross' time teaching in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, based on an earlier sketch.

Sketchbook, Charleston, 1983: ' 9 October. Well into the routine of teaching & work now. This suits me well, and I have now finished 6 gouaches, and started one more complicated one from a drawing earlier in this book....This suffers from being too symmetrical. Can it be helped by a reversal'

Exhibited at Charleston College, April 1983. This exhibition was entitled 'A River and Some Landscapes' a title used later for Cross' publication of the same name. (from Tom Cross Archive, FCP3/B/1/26).
